Jesus Savior – Who is Jesus?
Before calling Jesus “Savior,” we need to know who He is. Some people claim that He was a good man, a great teacher, or even a prophet from God. While these things are true, Jesus claimed to be even more. He claimed to be God in human form (John 1:1, 14).

The Bible explains that Jesus came to earth to teach us –
"‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: '”Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments’" (Matthew 22:36-40).

The Bible explains that Jesus came to earth to forgive us –
"‘Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses’” (Acts 13:38-39)

The Bible explains that Jesus came to earth to die for us –
“‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many’" (Mark 10:45).

Jesus Savior – What is a Savior?
Similarly, before calling Jesus “Savior,” we need to know what a Savior is. A Savior is one who saves, rescues, or delivers another from harm, danger, or loss. So, if Jesus is a Savior, what is He saving people from?

John 3:16-18 says that Jesus saves from “condemnation.” Instead of being condemned, those who believe in Him are declared not guilty. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.”

This salvation only comes through Jesus. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name [Jesus] under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”

Jesus Savior – Who needs a Savior?
In order to call Jesus “Savior,” we need to admit our need for a Savior and the salvation He offers. We can admit we’re a sinner. “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:22-24).

“He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household’ (Acts 16:30-31).

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

"Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified” (Galatians 2:16).
