Why is it helpful to confront a brother alone first, before involving others in confronting him?
The brother may be of more than happy for being approached in person rather than telling everybody of what he or she does wrong. The confidence of the issue between the two of brothers is important.

It is better to settle personal differences personally if at all possible. The one at fault can realize the error of their ways, repent and go on to be a better Christian because of your offer of help in bringing this to their attention privately and they will hopefully appreciate the opportunity to correct the matter without other witnesses to their humiliation.

We are all sinners. It is easier for the sinner to hear about it directly and if he listens and acknowledges the sin, then the matter may be resolved. Any confrontation should be in the name of the Lord and should be loving, caring, prayerful and truthful.

Maybe the brother doesn`t know what they`re doing is wrong. Instead of embarassing them in front of a group, spare their feelings and pray they change.

I try to tell this person of the trouble and hurt they cause, but they refuse to accept any responsibility for their actions. I love them and want to help, but I feel so useless. What can I do?

A Brother Who Sins Against You

"If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother. But if he doesn't listen, take one or two more with you, that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the assembly. If he refuses to hear the assembly also, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax collector. Most certainly I tell you, whatever things you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever things you release on earth will have been released in heaven. Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them."

Matthew 18:15-20
