Why did the people ask Jesus to leave their region after they heard about the pigs?
I think those people were afraid of the power that the son of man possessed. He was the challenge to them because even the spirits and demons listen to Him. Jesus was asked to leave the area because it was becoming so evident that He is really a son of God. The true Messiah that John prophesised about, that is greater than him, who is the word of God.

Why did the people ask Jesus to leave their region after they heard about the pigs?
Because their focus was on the finacial loss of the pigs and not on the Messiah; they were scared of Christ since He healed the demon-possessed man; and they were gentiles (as evidenced by the herd of pigs) and were not looking forward to the coming of the Messiah.
