The easiest way to discover your unique calling is to spend time getting to know Jesus more intimately. This means spending time in prayer, reading God`s Word and with other followers of Jesus. As you do these things, over time you will learn what your call is.
You are not the same as anyone else because He has designed you to be a unique member of His body, with a special task. That task could be something very simple. It might mean that you are called to clean toilets, or to be an excellent mother or father raising your children for Jesus, or to feed the poor, or preach the Word all around the world, or create websites sharing the Gospel . . . Or perhaps He`s called you to do a job and earn money and send some to missionaries so they can preach the Gospel overseas. Or maybe you are called to become a missionary yourself. Whatever Jesus calls you to do, the important thing is to do it wholeheartedly as if you were doing it for Him.
The Bible says that if you are faithful doing the small things, God will give you greater things to do (Luke 16:10). He rewards those who work hard and who are faithful. Those who preach, sing or who are "seen" to be doing the work of the Lord do not necessarily have a higher calling (although they may be more accountable because they have been given a place where they are in the limelight and others see them.) Jesus does not perceive prestige, position and power as man does. Not at all. He sees and rewards humility. Many believers have been given more "hidden" gifts. They might sit in their home praying for others, and writing letters to prisoners, perhaps baking cookies for a sick neighbor. Their gifts are not "seen" by many people. But God sees them and will greatly reward those who are faithful to humbly exercise their gifts.
It is important to attend a church where the Bible is studied as God`s Word, and where Jesus is lifted up, exalted and worshiped as the Son of God. As you pray, hear good, Bible teaching, and as you fellowship with other believers, you will discover your unique gifting and calling.
Oftentimes our calling to serve Jesus relates directly with our personalities and natural gifts--although this is not always so. Many times, God takes our talents and asks us to use them to glorify Him and to let others know about Him. But He does not want our talents to be used to bring honor and glory to ourselves as so many people do; rather, He wants us to be conscious of Him as we use our talent, and to bring Him all the glory, honor and praise.
Read the Bible to discover more about your calling. Read Romans 12, and 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. And pray and ask God to specifically show you what He would have you to. Here is a beautiful verse, which shows that we are God`s handiwork, and He made us to serve Him by doing works that He has prepared for us to do: "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).
