because God promise him ,he should see death befor he had seen lord christ.simon was devout waiting for the consolation of lsrael.

Because his eyes had seen the salvation which God had prepared for all the nations to see,a light to enlighten the pagans and the glory of God`s people Israel.

many centuries have passed and the promised messiah had not come but God promised Siemeon that he would Him before his death.This brought great joy to Simeon for this would be the desire of ages being fulfilled in his time.It would mean the ratification of the plan of salvation for the time of the promise given to Adam and Eve it would not be confirmed until the actual death of Christ.Then there would be no more ceremonial services of types and symbols but all may enter the throne of gracefreely
