Why did Jesus“ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
As shown in the old covenant there had to be a sacrifice, a shedding of blood of an animal for the atonement of the sins of the people. In the same way Jesus was adhering to the law, the shedding of His blood would then begin the new covenant. "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins" Matt 26:28 Being obedient to the Father's will Jesus also experienced the emotional pain of death.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
No Jesus was not trying to incite his death, he knew what was going to happen to him (John 18:4), he knew death was inevitable, that he was born to die as a sacrifice for our salvation. He knew his blood had to be shed (Mark 14:24) His blood would start the New Covenant, so allowing us to draw near to God. Jesus knew when the time had come for him to die (Mark14:41) (Matt 26:18) and he completely surrendered to his Father's will(Matt 26:39)

"Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?"
The first time I heard the Gospel was in a small village church in South Wales UK; the speaker spoke from John 10:10 and it was from that night on that I came to realise that the good news of God's forgivenes was one of abundance and life like I had never knowb before.  Almost twenty years later I can say that "Living in the Good News" has certainly been one of great forgiveness and abundant living.  Yes!  Jesus has certainly brought the message and lifestyle of God's Good News.

"Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?"
I believe that the ultimate demonstration of love is the willingness of someone to give up their own purposes to help others acheive their own goals and purposes.  Here we read how Jesus demonstrated His Fathers (God) love for ALL of mankind by willingly giving up not only His will but His life.

"Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?"

Hi there

Time for quick study and reflection - did Jesus demonstrate God's love? - most definitely as He was the sacrificial lamb, umblemished  - sacrificed for us (all sinners' behalf)  so that we could be accepted by a Holy  God.

Did He bring Good news?  Most definitely - the Gospel - He Talked it, walked it lived it - an example for us all.

To be a source of abundant life - that fullness -  that joy unlimited is available for us all - although if sometimes we can only take the lid - off our bottles to let more of that fullness in.

The Kingdom of God - is a place where the King rules.  The kingdom of God is wherever God reigns over the lives of His subjects.  this kingdom is not visible because God is not visible - at present it is an invisble kingdom but here in our midst - Jesus said the kingdom of God is within us.  But wherever there are those who honour Jesus - the King , and wherever the Spirit of the King is - then there is the kingdom of God.

God bless

Suzanna

If you had a one-on-one meal with Jesus, what would you discuss?
What a question!! I would try and discuss as much as possible in that meal and forget the food. I would definitely want to discuss heaven and eternity. I expect then it would give me more impetus to go and share with others the message of Christ so that as many people I know will also have the opportunity to become close to Jesus.

Love your enemies..do good....expecting nothing in return..."

Luke 6 verse 35 - very provocative and very inspiring for every day life.  It's great to read and memorise and quote...walking it though is challenging - "being kind to ungrateful and evil persons"  definitely worth remembering.

Why does Jesus call "Love One Another" a "New" commandment?
Under the Old Covenant the Ten Commandments were given to Moses for the Hebrew people, the first one being they should have no other gods before Him. But when Jesus came and he set aside the first covenant to establish the second (Heb 10:9), he gives us the "New Commandment" to love God with all our heart and to love one another. Under the Mosaic covenant obedience sprang from fear, and under the New covenant it comes from love and a servant heart. Now by grace having been brought into a personal relationship with Jesus we can grow in love for God and for one another. "For the law was given by Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ".

What is the Kingdom of God?
The Kingdom of God is the Holy Spirit living in us, and by His Spirit to know the reality of God's love, his forgiveness, his peace, his joy in our lives, .. living in his will, and so showing God's love to others.
