Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
I think that is what humans experience in varying degrees when they sin, so Jesus being fully human (as well as fully God), had to experience the same.  He is able to be fully compassionate and understanding of our own earthly struggles because he suffered the same pain.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

The spiritual seperation of Jesus was essential as it would bring those who choose to see God.

But before a person opens his spiritual eye and sees God, he must be emotionally and mentally stable. One cannot become a christian because he is mentally and emotionally vurnerable and needs a support.

Jesus physical death pays for our shame, guilt and emotional baggage that we carry around and prevents us from coming to god's presence> The same emotional baggages prevents us from loving and receiving love of others.

Jesus died an accursed death. The physical death of Jesus helps us to come boldly before Gods presence. We no longer worry about how bad or incapable we are.

If Jesus death would have been only spiritual, there would have been still our guilt and shame that prevents us from coming into a fuller life. But He took our shame sorrow and guilt also to the cross.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Sacrifice of animals could not save whole world. God love his special creation that is man and women. God planned to sacrifice himself to save  his creation. God sent his only begoton son in the world in the form of Jesus. Jesus took the sin of all humnity and became sinner himself. Wages of sin is death. According to law of the land and of God,  sinner has to suffer physically and emotionally. God is spirit. Son of God is God. So Jesus is God. He became flesh and entered in the world in the form of Jesus. Hence, it is not possible spiritual sepatation from God. Because Jesus is God and God is spirit.

he had to be seperated from God because he was bearing our sins.this is the most painful sacrifice a human can ever make.in the end there is no need for us t suffer spiritual separation.we are reconciled to the father through him.
