I don`t know why He calls it a new commandment.Unless maybe He was bringing something from the old testament into the new testament. I know jesus as my saviour from my child hood time now i`m 35 i can not follow him according to his words .In every step i made i always face obstacle that hinders my christan life .brothers & sisters what do you advice me & remember me in your prayer .

Jesus penalty for sin included physical and emotional pain was because God was flesh like us so he had to bear the sins for us on the cross by being physically tortured. There wwas no other way. Jesus was more than willing to suffer the emotional and physical pains but being seperated from God while bearing our sins was the heaviest sacrafice he made for us. this was to simply show non believers that jesus christ was a human being like us who could feel pain physically and emotionally so that it becomes easier for them to believe his teachings and words and at the same time show them that he was the true son of god the almighty. The physical penalty was for the purpose of emphasizing to the people who otherwise would not understand the sacrifice made. Because He need to be understood and grasp by everyone or to his people that there is God/Jesus who love to much and besides that, man by nature, will believe if he will see in his / her eyes. That`s why Jesus need to include physical and emotional pain in paying the penalty for sin so that He can go to the human level of understanding and can be felt by everyone who love Jesus. Jesus`s physical pain teaches us that the Master Himself suffered so much for the love of us. He gave up His life as a ransom for us . He was punised as a sinner, physically and emotionally to relieve us from death and severe punishment.
