Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Jesus bridges the gap between God and man.  Jesus was The Sacrificial    Lamb.  He was totally God and totally man.

Jesus had to feel the pain and emotions of dying physically to separate physical and spiritually from God. I believe it was symbolic.  The old person must die to be reborn again as a child of God's.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Jesus was bearing the penalty for our sin(s), and as humans we know well the physical and emotional pain of both life and death, so Jesus being fully human, as well as full divine, had to experience all that we have to experience in life and death.  The separation of Jesus from His Father had to be complete so that we can also from Him find the reconciliation to our Father in heaven for all of our being, physical, emotional and spiritual.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)

Jesus had Godly and human insight about what was going to happen to Him. God sent Jesus down for accomplish several missions.

Jesus knew what He must go thru for our salvation.

"Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?"

God sent His Son Jesus down here on earth to accomplish several purposes.

* to tell us about God's never ending love for us, and to spread the Good News.

* Jesus to be a living sacrifice for our sins and how to be forgiven by accepting Jesus as our personal Savior and how to live with Him in Heaven for all eternity.

All what Jesus came for was accomplished.

Believe that Jesus did what the heavenly Father sent/came into the world to do.  He is Savior, life, freedom giver, deliverer.  As read the Gospel record of Jesus' life, He is all that He was purposed to be for this world caught in sin, slavery, despair, etc.

How does Jesus link intimacy to him with obedience to him?" a "New" commandment?

Just like an earthly father, if a child is disobedient his father would be hurt and disappointed in that child for being disodedient.

The father may discipline that child but he will still love him.

That is how our Heavenly Father is ton us.

If we sin He is hurt and disappointed in us.He may discipline us but He will ALWAYS love us.

If you had a one-on-one meal with Jesus, what would you discuss?

First, I would thank Him for being my Savior and friend and for loving me so much.  How He could love a sinner like me.

I would ask Him about Heaven and describe it to me, and what my role in Heaven would be.

But to be honest I would probably be in awe of Him and speecless.

Jesus himself taught us to seek intimancy with God through private prayer. Prayer is where the worshiper pours out his heart to God.  When you say your private prayers and stick with them, you are being obedient to Jesus.

If you had a one-on-one meal with Jesus, what would you discuss?

If I had a one on one meal with Jesus we would discuss several things.  First, I would tell him how fascinating it was when he turned water into wine.  Second, I would tell him how wonderful it was when he brought Lazarus back from the dead and what was it like to see the joy in Mary and Martha's eyes.  Third, what was it like living on earth as a human being.

I would ask Jesus how could I get over some of my struggles.  For example, how to deal with loneliness, sadness, and stress.  These topics are some of our biggest problems in many people.  They cause us to do things we may not want to.  For example, we consume more alcohol and many may turn to drugs to relieve the melancholy.  I would want to discuss these issues with Jesus because he could give me the best advice.
