Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
This is to fulfil all that is written in the scipture as recorded mostly in the book of Isaiah ,He was wounded for my transgrations and so many other statements referring to physical and emotional pains. It will make GOD a lier if all that is written in the scripture did not come to pass. You know my GOD will never lie.

this was because Jesus was in human form, it was just an example of how us humans experience when we sin.

Jesus as both man and God knew what is the difference between the two, He wants us to experience the pains He himself suffers because He wans to make man learn that sin is painful and that we must not do it and avoid it.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
Jesus the son of God was born and live with other people just like ordinary man. But his likeness to God is unique and is manifested through his intellect and character. He is man of humbleness that he accepted his fate to be born and die the way the scripture is written. His strong faith and belief is his arm against tyrrants. He is the alpha and omega and that what makes Jesus the most famous man on earth before and after his time and beyond.

Jesus was not trying to incite his his death, though he know that at the appointed time,he will be crucified as to fulfil what is written in the scripture concerning his mission on earth. Both  cleansing of temple and accusation of leaders, was all to fulfil what is written in the scripture.

If you had a one-on-one meal with Jesus, what would you discuss?

i would want to know how the end will be like, and the signs to that will confirm his second and final coming back so that i am not caught unaware

i would want to know how heaven looks like and more especially to know my staus or stand in him, whether i qualify to go to heaven, because my greatest concern why i got born again is entirely to go to Heaven  to enjoy life with the Lord.

to know exactly my future destiny and to ask him to let me know my purpose in life while here on the earth.

i would want to know how he feels or reacts  when people decide  to refuse the goodnews and also when we christians refuse to proclaim the goodnews, how does he feeel and react.

i would discuss his unfailing love towards us sinners, and keep asking him to describe for me the nature of heart or spirit that he has. is it different from the rest of ours or his is unique and special.

discuss about his life now while he's seated at the right hand of the father, what they think about us especially we christians, him and the father.

is there a second chance to repent when he comes to them that have been playing around with their salavation.

"Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?"

all the purposes were fulfilled. Jesus left no stone un turned, what ever was his purpose he made sure that he fulfilled it.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)

also vital to note is that Jesus had the idea of his death at the back of his mind, so there was no need for him to incite his death, just as a son who has been already assured by the father that he's the next heir, he adds no sense at all if he goes further to assissinate his father so that he may enherit in his father's stead.

therefore, Jesus knew exactly his position in as far as his relationship with his was, and thus no need of inciting his death.

Also, just as the Bible says that there's   time and season to everything (Eccl 3:1-8) it means that the time was ripe for temple cleansingand Jesus had to do it,irrespective of what it could cause him or lead to.
