November 22, 2008 Showing Love Towards God: When have you put love into action?
I went through a season of my life when my oldest daughter moved away to college that I was angry at God. I was lonely and felt that everything good in my life was slipping out of my fingers. With the help of an old friend, I prayed my way through that season and discovered that life was sweeter and more tender because I wrestled through those issues with God. He didn’t get mad at me because I was mad at him. Instead, he was kind and tender toward me. I trust him all the more now. I know he is good because he walked with me through one of my hardest seasons of life (there was more to the challenges than just this change). Now, I feel that my spiritual life is blossoming as never before. I’m really excited about everything God is doing in my heart.

November 22, 2008 Meeting Social Needs: When have you put love into action?
A church I used to go to had a ministry where they do what they call servant evangelism. Every Saturday morning they send out teams of people who go out into the community and find ways of meeting a variety of people’s needs. One team fill red wagons full of smoke alarm batteries and light bulbs. They go door to door and offer to check the smoke alarm batteries for people and replace them if needed free of charge. They also replace any burnt out light bulbs in the house. Another team sets up auto mechanics in the church parking lot and any single parents can bring up their cars and these guys will fix them without any service fees (just part costs and they have a program help out special cases with those costs too). Another team brings buckets of soap and water into area restaurants and bars and they offer to clean their public bathrooms free of charge. You should see these groups of people coming in wearing yellow latex dish washing gloves asking the manager if they would like their bathrooms cleaned for them. The stares are priceless. Another team of people go to the local shopping mall and hand out water bottles and soft drinks to people coming out of the mall on hot days. They don’t accept tips and when asked why they are doing it they simply say the wanted to give a practical example of God’s love for them. They don’t preach or hand out tracts, ask people to visit their church or anything like that. They’ve had a lot of people walk through their church doors wondering what was going on in these people’s lives to cause them to do such things.

November 22, 2008 Meeting Emotional Needs: When have you put love into action?
I have a grandmother with Alzheimer’s and she doesn’t do much now other than sit in her wheelchair. Some of the family has written her off and basically ignores her. When I’m over the weather is nice, I wheel her outside and comb her hair and read to her. I think the sun on her face and the wind in her hair helps her. She can’t communicate much but I get signs that she enjoys it. It’s my little part of loving on someone I love.

November 22, 2008 Meeting Physical Needs: When have you put love into action?
As a nurse, I’m showing love meeting people’s physical needs everyday. It’s my job but I try to go above and beyond my job to care for the people I help each day. I believe God gives us chances every day to make a difference in the lives of people we encounter. To me the biggest way I show people love in meeting their physical needs is by taking the time to pay attention to what they are saying. I really listen. Then, I find some way to say I care and they matter.

November 04, 2008 Stress: How has Jesus helped you?
Hello everyone. Great thought from everyone. Thank you. I have studied the life of Jesus as a Sunday School teacher for many years. I reached a point in my life many years ago where I realized that my life was too complicated and busy. I learned to dial it down several notches and live a slower, more paced and balanced life. When you look at the life of Jesus, you will find a man got away regularly (seemingly every morning) to recharge his spiritual batteries in communion with the Father. If Jesus needed to do that, boy do I. We all have the same amount of time to spend every day. I’ve come to discover that I have a richer life with more lasting fruit at the end of the day when I try to accomplish less and invest more time doing the most important things. For me, that means investing my time in me and feeding my spirit, my soul and my body all the healthy things needed for an abundant life. It takes much less than I used to think and yet more of the things I used to neglect.
