Showing Love Towards God: When have you put love into action?
I’m simple in this way but I believe that if you enjoy life as thoroughly as possible, you are worshipping God. John Piper has written some awesome books such a Future Grace and Desiring God that helped me overcome my guilt in enjoying the things I like to do and be and realizing that God takes pleasure in me because he created me to be the unique person I am. I grew up in a Christian family where guilt was the rule of the day. It took a lot of time and effort to get over that way of thinking and learn to enjoy myself, God and life much more fully. If you’ve never read any of Piper’s work, I’d recommend it.

Meeting Social Needs: When have you put love into action?
I’ve used to go into a nursery home once a week and visit with the people there. I would just sit and chat with them and they thought I was the greatest. They would chat about all kinds of things. I heard so many funny and touching stories I still remember today. It breaks my heart when I think about all the elderly sitting in their rooms with nothing to do just waiting to die. Many of them have no one who visits them. Many still have a sparkle in their eye and are funny and friendly. If you have an opportunity to develop a nursing home ministry in your church or community I’d suggest trying it at least once. I know one group that brings cats and dogs into a nursing home once a week and the people just love to pet them. They anticipate animal day all week and talk about it expectantly with each other all the time. I’ve met some real characters in my experiences. Give it a try if you can.

Meeting Mental Needs: When have you put love into action
If this isn’t what you are looking for or of interest to people here please forgive. I’m a techno-geek. I love learning, exploring, discovery, etc., etc. One of the things I like to do is go out to my favorite sites like TED and find fascinating technologies, inventions, concepts and such and then send them out to all my geeky friends. That makes me the man in the know – the information conduit. I hear back from quite a few people who thank me and share their appreciation for keeping them in the techno loop this way. Here is a video of one of my favorites:

Meeting Emotional Needs: When have you put love into action?
I have a neighbor who had a nervous breakdown or something like that. He stays at home and doesn’t work. So, I come over once or twice a week and help with dinner and then sit around at the table and chat with him and his wife. We sometimes go out back and sit and chat. I try to bring him encouragement. I can tell there’s a lot of stuff bottled up inside him. There are times when he opens up and I can see change but other times he’s closed off. But, I believe that change is happening and eventually he’s going to return back to his old self.

Meeting Physical Needs: When have you put love into action?
I volunteered at a soup kitchen for the poor, homeless and single parents for a couple of years and it was a great experience for me. I learned much and it helped me in more ways that I can describe. There were times when it seemed like this was the only time some of these people ever got out of their houses and interacted with others. These people were not only poor financially, they were poor in spirit and in other ways too. I helped cook at times, served food, seat people, sit and talk, clean up the dishes, etc. If you’ve never had this experience, so should try it. I bet it will change your life.
