Why did JesusĀ“ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish ,but have everlasting life.Jesus came to the world as a man like all of us.He thus experienced everyday life's sufferings like us.It was then God's manifestation to fulfill Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection to mankind in a way that man experiences everyday but this time God shows us His might that He conquers even death. This is why Jesus underwent physical and emotional pain just like mankind despite him being part of the Trinity.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
I feel that the word incite has been wrongly used in this situation.I believe that all the events that were to happen were already known by Jesus since He is part of the Trinity. This is evidently proved by his foretelling to his desciples of how some of them were to betray him and deny him before his death and resurrection.I think it is not that he was trying to incite his death by cleansing the temple or his accusation of the leaders, this i feel was the Holy Spirit at work. This final lesson has revealed to me a new thing in the encounter of Jesus and Peter.Jesus met Simon who was a fisherman.Jesus loved Peter more than the rest of his desciples and even changed his name from Simon to Peter which means the Rock.Peter despite his closeness with Jesus, denied him three times as Jesus had foretold.Peter was so guilty of this but by grace,Jesus forgave him and told him"once i called you the Rock upon which i would build my church, and that hasn't changed, you are still the Rock." I am so touched by this act of forgiveness and reasurrance, despite our sins God is able to forgive us and give us another chance.May God's name be praised.

"Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?"
I believe Jesus accomplished all the purposes. This was because He came to fulfill prophecy.Jesus demonstrated God's love through forgiveness. The Bible says that God loves us so much that He wants us to come to him just as we are,as weak as we are,as sinful as we are, even if our sins are red as blood,he will cleanse us and make it as white as snow.Jesus also asked God to forgive those that crucified him for they knew not what they were doing. There is truely power in forgiveness.Jesus also accomplished bringing the Goodnews by shifting change from the law of Moses where now he taught people that the laws now were written in our hearts and that we nolonger need to offer animal sacrifices to God because Jesus' blood that he shed on the cross has covered for our sins.

How does being forgiven increase ones love for God? Note: According to Jesus, God`s forgiveness is motivated by love.
Debt, like sin is a heavy burden upon our lives. This makes life difficult and without happiness because we try to find ways of freeing ourselves only to find we are back in the same burdened position again. It is only through confession to God that He forgives us by his grace. This experience makes God's love to us sparkle in our hearts and we love Him back in return and from then onwards we entrust God with our lives and let Him take control.
