What is "the Christ"? How is it different than one of the prophets?

"The Christ" is the Son of God.  As promised in the Old Testament, God would send "the Christ" to live among us on Earth.  The prophets told of the coming of the Christ, but that did not make them "the Christ".  Jesus was the Christ, the Saviour and Messiah, sent by God himself.  There was and will be only one Christ.

What was Jesus trying to teach the disciples? Note: Jesus left twelve baskets full when he fed the 5000 people on the Israel side (Israel had 12 main regions or tribes).
Maybe Jesus was trying to show that the bread that He provided gave more than was needed.  If you take up the bread of Jesus, there willl always be more for you.  You will never run out of what you need, if only you believe in and follow Jesus.   However, those who place more faith in Herod and the Pharisees, will not be provided for.  Love Jesus, and He will provide for you.

Healing and multiplying food did not convice the religious leaders. What sign would have convinced you of Jesus as God?
I believe that just listening to some of Jesus' teachings and lessons would have been enough for me to believe.  Jesus had so much love, charity and compassion to give, He surely must have been sent from God.  Healing many sick people would have also been proof to me that the Son of Man was indeed among us.

When asked about a religious practice (fasting), why does Jesus describe how old and new may not be compatible?
Maybe Jesus was trying to show the difference between Himself and John. Jesus was now among them, and He had come after John. Therefore, John was the old and Jesus the new. Things would be different now that Jesus was among them, and the people would now follow Jesus rather than John.

How did Jesus behave in sharp contrast to how religious leaders acted?
Instead of shunning sinners for their ways, as the leaders would do, Jesus sat with the sinners. He would rather help the sinners mend their ways than ignore them because they are already sinners.
