How is Jesus coming into Galilee like light coming into a dark place? What is there about Jesus teaching that is like light?
JESUS' teaching was very refreshing and endearing to those who were open and willing to receive The GOOD NEWS. Very profound forcing those to personally reflect and look at their lives from a whole new perspective. He is known as the light of this world and should you be willing to believe, you will live forever (meaning the light of your life will never go out completely).

Why was it important for Jesus to go through a time of temptation?
It was written this way through the scriptures, so in order for the word to be carried out, this period needed to occur exactly the way it was described. I also suspect there is perhaps some truth to the effect that JESUS was also man. As such, the following period helped to define the fact that JESUS and this time of tempting proved that he was infact without sin.

Why did Herod try to kill Jesus?

He was afraid and didn't want to be rivaled and or unseated by the people. He feared an uprising and all of the signs pointing to the birth of a new savior.

Why did God choose such a unique way (through a virgin birth) to bring Jesus into the world?
To fulfill the scriptures. I however suspect it had to occur through the Holy Spirit to ensure JESUS would have been perfect and without sin. Through man, this would not be possible.

Why did Jesus use the greeting. "Peace be to you"? Was there special signiificance in this greeting?
JESUS' entire ministry was built on peace, love & forgiveness. Greeting them in the following manner was done with love and affection, because he wanted them to feel at ease. Certainly, these were the men closest to JESUS, yet they still fled and left him to be handed over. JESUS wanted to ensure his greeting was one of peace to reassure them he loved them regardless of their actions, thoughts, wrongdoings or good deeds.
