It's Christmas morning, two of my children are with their dad, my third is home with me because he has an estranged relationship with his dad from the divorce.
As I read about the brokenhearted in the bible, Jesus says in Luke 4:18 that He came to set free those who are oppressed. And in Isaiah 61:1 this verse refers to Luke 4:18 with the words that "He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted." To hear this spoken by Jesus is amazing. When looking up brokenhearted on Dictionary.com, the definition says this , "Burdened with great sorrow or grief or disappointment. Grievously sad. Heartsick, heartbroken, despondent, dejected.
When hope is stolen and all that is left is brokenheartedness, Jesus knows. It is why He came. He knew, He knows and will know in the future, that brokenheartedness will touch many people. He is close to the brokenhearted it states in Psalm 34:18. When so much sorrow, grief and pain is overwhelming, others words cannot heal as Jesus' can. Emotions lie to us and people cannnot be trusted. God's word is truth and speaks to us, when we desparately need it. Go to God, Go to Jesus and His words, He is waiting to comfort the brokenhearted as only He can.
