Matthew 9:27-34 Why is faith so important when we ask Jesus to do something for us?

Faith can move mountains!

Wehave to believe that there is Only One God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; I believe that Jesus, became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. We have to believe all these and  the truths which the Holy Church teaches, because God has revealed them and He will never deceive nor can He be deceived.

When we ask Jesus to do something for us we have to believe that if it is in compatibility with His Will, it will be fulfilled.   And thanks is offered even before the prayer is granted.

How is Jesus` teaching like fresh wine requiring fresh wineskins?

After the Old Testament teachings, Jesus comes with the Good News - the message of Salvation - forgiveness of Sins - Life Everlasting to those who listen to Him and follow His Teachings.

He is the Fresh Wine and we are the new wineskins that will take in, contain and pass on the Faith.  We must spread the Good News that all is not lost - we must draw the lost sheep back to the Fold.

What made the woman`s faith so powerful? How does one obtain faith like the woman?

She had  suffered haemorrhage for twelve long years - another would have broken her faith with God and may have questioned His reason for letting her suffer so.  But this woman's faith was made stronger through suffering and her belief that Jesus did not have to touch her to heal her - just the touch of His Holy Garment would do the job.

I think one should be develop faith like the woman through prayer and serenity in times of suffering - trusting that God is the greatest Physician of the body and the soul.

Why did Jesus choose Matthew, a known taxgatherer and a despised man, to be His disciple?
Jesus chose Mathew, a known tax gatherer and a despised man to be His disciple because he loved the sinner. After all He chose to come into the world - to live among sinners and to save them at the cost of His Life.  As He said to the Pharisees - that the sick need the doctor ... not the healthy.  The righteous ones already belong to God but the sinners need to repent for their sins and to draw their strength from God.  Hence he moved among them and called them to Him.

Why did Jesus first forgive the paralytic`s sins, and only later heal him? What lesson was he trying to communicate?
The Religious leaders were always trying to find fault with Jesus - to pave the way to kill Him.   Jesus had to show these people that He was the Son of God- the Messiah -  and had the authority on earth to forgive sins  and He proved it by healing the paralyzed man and by telling him to pick up his stretcher and go home for he was healed.  The lesson He tried to communicate was forgiveness - one was first required to exercise forgiveness for spiritual healing before one could expect physical healing.
