Why do you think Jesus chose to appear to the disciples in this way?
I our everyday lives Jesus reveals himself, in the midst of our hardwork and endless toiling he is there in our midst. He is there for us to have an overflow of blessing and provide more than we are able to contain.

Why do you think Jesus chose, after he rose, to show Himself first to Mary Magdalene?
It is in our deepest sorrow, tears, fears, grief and pain that Jesus shows us that he is still alive. That whilst we are in mourning and emotional pain, he is there for us, to listen to our cries and to show that he is all that we need, all that we are looking for. Situations and circumstances may have us in tears, BUT OUR SAVIOUR IS ALIVE and has authority of every circumstance.

Why did Jesus“ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Christ Jesus was the lamb which died in atonement of our sins. Having taken upon himself the sin of man he suffered the consequence for sin does not only have physical consequence, but physical & emotional consequence. By his death we are freed from those consequences in all aspects and are given a frsh start by his blood which gave both Gentile & Jew access to the Holy of Holies that is why we pray in his name for he came to overcome and defeat the pain and it's source.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?
Having always known about Jesus, I never really grasped that he was a man, a person, and that he is not part of a fairytale or childhood dream. The conditions that he lived under and the rules and systems that he was subjected to are still in existence all over the world & it is true that he changeth not and by design he is current in all times, settings & backgrounds...
