Jesus was sent to show man how to live and how to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus did not have to repent, but this act did two things: Jesus showed how we are to ask fr forgiveness and be baptized, and it was a way the Father could open the Heavens showing the fullness of the trinity - Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

January 30, 2008 If you were Mark, writing a short report to demonstrate to a Roman audience that Jesus (a Jewish man) was "the Son of God", what would you include in that report?
Jesus was with God from the beginning. He left the Father to come to earth to live a sinless life and die for our sins. You would have to include the miracles He performed, but I also think you would have to speak about how Jesus gave people an incredible peace. The biggest thing about Jesus' ministry (unlike that of the Pharisees) was that He never did it for Himself. He either credited the Father or asked that the Father be glorified. Jesus never did it for fame, money, or respect. He only did it because it was His Father's will.
