When asked about a religious practice (fasting), why does Jesus describe how old and new may not be compatible?

Jesus trying to teach us about the new and old teachings. The old teachings pertains to the life of people before Jesus came to earth. While the teachings is about the life of Jesus from His brith to His death to save us from our sins.

Why is it so important to God that we forgive others when they sin against us?
Because if God can forgive why can't we" Jesus forgives us from our sin as He died on the cross to save us all. The Lord forgives our sins as He expected from us to forgive those who sinned against us.

How can you recognize whether you are entering through the narrow gate or are on the broad way?

The narrow gate is the way to heaven where Jesus. It is like what Jesus made His way to the Father. When we are heading a narrow gate we experienced hardships in life but with faith in Jesus that He will accompany till the end.

The broadway is where all the material and earthly pleasure happens and people do without remembering what Jesus did for us. It is where sins are committed without the knowledge of the people who are in it.
