It could be that Peter was afraid,having seen what Jesus went through.Quite often when spiritual forces attack us, we forget the Trust we have in Jesus and we go into the flesh,as a result we become afraid because we are not steadfast in our faith.God assures His children of the protection no matter the situation or circumstance. One other aspect is repentance, even if we falter, we have to go back to our Father and ask for forgiveness and Him a Faithful and Just God, will forgive us just like He did with Peter.

November 28, 2007 How would Jesus explain his statement "The Kingdom of God is within you"
By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you are actually saying I am now conforming to your teaching, i will do everything according to your word. The gospel tells us that the Son of Man is the way the truth and the Life and noone goes to the Father but through Him.So through Him we already have the Kingdom of God, it is within us, for as long as we have accepted Him into our lives.
