October 16, 2006 Come Unto MeThe Savior said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ''Matt 11:28-30'' I find it interesting that the Lord says this to not only His disciples, but to all those who read the words in the New Teastament. How comforting it is to know that if we follow Christ and try to do what He would do, we can find rest to our souls. What a beautiful promise.
In the early days of his ministry Phillip and Andrew were in awe over what they heard and saw Christ say and do. They continued to pursue Christ. Sensing that He was being pursued, He turned and asked, What seek ye", other translations simply render it What do you want" and they answered Him, Where dwellest thou" or Where do you live" and Christ replied, Come and see. A short time later He would formally call Peter and the other new apostles, with the same spirit of invitation, Come follow me. It seems like every problem we have in life boils down to these two scenes in the Savior`s mortal ministry. The first is the question, it is the question asked to every single one of us What seek ye" What do you want" And the second is His answer as to how to get that. Whoever we are and what ever our problems His answer is universally the same, forever. It is Come unto me. Come see what I do, and see how I spend my time. Learn of me follow me and in the process I will give you answers to your prayers and rest to your souls.
Throughout my life I know of no other peace which is more woderful than that which only the Master, Jesus Christ can give. When I wander and rely on my own strength I ALWAYS, fall. Then I must humble myself before the Lord, and repent.
I am continually amazed how forgiving the Lord is. If we didn`t trully believe that Christ was so merciful we would never attempt to repent, so it is by faith that we are continually repenting in order to better follow Him. No matter what we do, so long as we do not kill anyone, Christ will always forgive us, if we repent. For which I am greatful because I mess up daily. But through the atonement of Jesus Christ I know that I can be cleasned of my sins. His redeeming power is not limited, rather it is eternal, as is He.
Being that He created everything on this earth it is only He who could atone for His creations. He is the Father of everything on this planet. And I imagine He weeps when we feel that we have messed up so badly that we feel we cannot be saved. Nothing could be farther from the truth, this is a lie of the devil, which I have been able to overcome over the last little bit. Christ loves everyone of us, and wants all of us to return to Him. His mission truly is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of men. He has no other objective, no where else to go, nothing else to do, no basketball game to watch, no chess match to win, His primary objective is to bring all of us back to Him.
This is why he commands us, Come, follow me. When we truly come unto Christ, we learn how to fully rely on His law and we live a higher standard of life. We become a little better, a little more righteous. We learn line upon line, inch by inch, until we arrive at the state of Eternal Life.
Christ loves all of us and wants us all to suceed, but it is an individual decision for all of us to make, whether we will follow the Master, Jesus Christ, or the father of all lies, the devil. There are only two paths. Christ admonishes, Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. ''Matt 7:13-14''
I pray that all of us may find that straight path that we may return and live with our Father in Heaven
who loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. |
