What did Pilate perceive about Jesus that made him so reluctant to have Jesus executed?

First and foremost, Pilate did not want to be involved with these types of religious matters concerning the Jews. He knew this was a very troubling time and for fear that there would be a lot of unrest in his territory, he went ahead with the punishment and crucifixion of JESUS, even though, he was troubled by these decisions. In certain depictions of the story you see scenes that show Pilate wiping his hands clean of this decision to put JESUS to death. He laid this doing on the people.

Why do you think Peter denied Jesus?
He was scared that he would also be arrested, enprisoned and or killed.

How did Jesus` death benefit people?

The Jewish leaders wanted to see JESUS brought to death for they were fearful of him, his miracles and the croud stirring that was going on as a result of his ministry. Bringing him to death, would restore order in their community and as a result it would benefit their people so that further riots and danger would not be sustained.

We know by JESUS' death that we will be forever saved from our sins as long as we believe in the son of man and accept him as our Saviour.

Why did Jesus go so willing with those who intended to do Him harm?
It was to fulfill the scriptures and his Father's will. He knew from the beginning that he alone would have to undertake this unto himself. His love for us is beyond comprehension.

What point is Jesus making when He states "eternal life" is knowing the Father and Jesus Christ?

We've been blessed with life here on earth, but we know through our belief in JESUS and the FATHER that life doesn't end with our physical death. Accepting JESUS as our LORD and saviour will certainly be a good start as a way to receive eternal life.
