Why does God appreciate prayers in secret more than public prayers?

Because it's a show of love and devotion. If you go to church or pray in public, then there are many eyes to see and observe what you do. However, if you pray in private then there can be no doubt that you are doing it solely because of your love for the LORD and your devotion to him. Publicly, in some situations, when you pray, the focus may not always be placed on the LORD directly.

Why is giving in secret more to be commended that giving where people can see it?

Because doing good deeds and acts of kindness should be second nature and become an everyday part of who we are. If we do these things openly then it opens the door to receiving praise and may even introduce jealosy from other such bystanders. It's best to perform these things in private where the LORD will notice them. That's what important.

Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?
Because JESUS' mission was all about teaching lessons about peace, love, harmony, understanding & compassion. Any reactions negative in nature was in direct conflict with JESUS' teaching and GOD'S will.

Why is it Jesus speaks so strongly against divorce and remarriage?

I suspect it has something to do with his FATHER'S will. Whatever GOD brings together, let no man separate. So, knowing JESUS' love for his FATHER, he speaks strongly about this so not to encourage any casual deviation from the sacrament of marriage and the bond that GOD brought together.

Why does Jesus speak so strongly against anger?
Because it is directly opposed to the foundation of his teachings and the will of the FATHER. Anger is a mechanism the evil one uses to interfere with our relationships. Especially the relationship with the FATHER and his SON.
