Why do only some choose to accept Jesus and others oppose Him and His followers?

Those who chose to accept Jesus is by the Grace of God.  Jesus Said I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and compassion on whom I will have compassion. If you want to follow Jesus you will deny yourself of some things that you think gives you pleasure. But the flesh will not allow some to give up those things except by the grace of God.

When answering John`s question about whether He was the Christ, why did Jesus point out the results of his ministry rather than just saying yes or no?
An adage says 'seeing is believing.'  Also Jesus wants to show that He is not proud the they have to realize themselves Whom He is through the works He carried.

What types of people are suited to be laborers in the harvest for Jesus?

Jesus was compassionate according where we read.  Those who will be suited to be laborers are people who have the mind of Christ. Those who are saved.

Matthew 9:27-34 Why is faith so important when we ask Jesus to do something for us?
The Bible says in James in Jame 1:6-8 that he that doubt is like a sea wave.  He cannot receive anything from God.  If you dont have faith in somebody that he is able to give you what you want if you ask you cannot receive. Our faith in Jesus makes us believe in Him.  First as our saviour and also as the only one Who can meet all our need.

Why did Jesus choose Matthew, a known taxgatherer and a despised man, to be His disciple?
Jesus is a loving God.  He came to the world to die for the sins of the world especially men like Matthew so while will He not look for ways of bringing him to the fold.
