8 of 10: My current level of knowledge about Jesus?
10 of 10: My current level of respect/appreciation for Jesus?
I consider Jesus to be
Friend, Forgiver, God, Guide, Historical Person, Lord, Prophet, Son of God, Teacher
Jesus makes me feel
Loving, Free, Accepted, Valuable, Not alone,
Am I a follower of Jesus: Yes
What is my journey/story with Jesus?
In high school, I decided to accept Jesus` invitation to be my Friend. Over the last 30+ years, I`ve come to relate to Him also as Forgiver, Guide, and King. I think I`m just getting started.
How has Jesus helped me (with self, family, work)?
I’ve gained a better life now, a secure future, and a path to make our world a better place. More specifically, Jesus gives me:
  • Abundant life now - as I experience God`s Spirit and power dwelling in me each day
  • Acceptance – Freedom to relate to God, as my loving Father, without blame or shame
  • Belonging – The power to be called a child of God
  • Hope - The promise of a perfect, mind, heart and new body someday in heaven
  • Purpose – An invitation to fulfill God’s wonderful plan for me
  • Significance – My value is infinite as I am treasured uniquely by the God of the universe
  • Security – Eternal life means death can no longer harm me and I escape eternal separation from my loving God

I`ve also seen miraculous answers to prayer (ask me about it). Still often times, God hears my requests, but does not give me what I ask for. This is normal. Even Jesus, while being killed, recalled these words from the Psalms: ``My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning? Oh, my God, I cry by day, and thou dost not answer; and by night but find no rest. Yet thou art holy.`` The question is whether I will trust God and praise God even through hard times.
  • How has Jesus changed me?
Jesus has given me a passion for serving others. He said, if you want to be the greatest, you need to serve others. So my mission statement is now, ``Love and be loved.`` Jesus also gave me a passion for EXCELLENCE. I now want to do things and act in a way that brings pleasure to God. So whatever I do, I try to perform with excellence with Jesus in mind.
How do I describe "A relationship with Jesus?"
Jesus has been a true friend. By that I mean:
  • He listens to my heartaches without blaming me for having problems.
  • He defends me when others criticize
  • He`s happy when I succeed and sad when I fail.
  • He give me wise counsel to keep me from foolish choices
  • He risks making me angry for the sake of making me right
  • He reveals (doesn`t hide) His intentions
  • He see my potential for good/transformation/significance
  • He knows my weaknesses/propensity for evil He sacrificed Himself for me He encourages me in good times and bad
  • How have I experienced Jesus?
This may sound strange, but I talk to Jesus, and Jesus talks (without sound) to me. I once thought this was a bit ego-centric and mysterious, until I realized that when God created humans, He created us to dialog with Him, without blame or shame, just like a friend talks to a friend. Now, I`d never be able to approach God like this, unless God Himself made this possible. My ability to listen to Jesus is also often impaired by my own thoughts, and the voices of others. So when I think I`m hearing Jesus, I can ask Him, ``Jesus is that You?`` I also compare what He`s saying to me, with what is recorded in His written word. That motivates me to study His life and teachings. If what I hears is not consistent with His previous words, I toss out the ``voice`` as not from Him.
Why and how did I become a follower of Jesus?
When my Mom died of cancer. I was just 11. She left my Dad working a full-time job, running a motel business at night, and needing to care for his two kids and elderly father. So, I was sent to go live with another family. In a short time, I lost my Mom, my friends, and my Dad except for on weekends. I was lonely and needed a friend. As a high school freshman, someone explained to me that Jesus was knocking at the door of my life (Rev. 3:20), and that he wanted to come in, eat with me, and be my friend. I said, please come in. He has been my best friend ever since.
