"What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."

If I cheat on my wife, beat her, abandon her, gain an addiction, and etc., then I am guilty of breaking the covenant we took before God.  She is free to go.   Jesus does not mean for my wife to go through life with black eyes and such.  Be aware of being heard of heart.  Remember that our Lord is compassionate.

in todays society divorce is too easy and yes iam divorced as my x had bipolar that was out of control and she refused help and as a result my sons future and safety was at stake plus the fact she was sleeping with others so I pray in Gods eyes he forgives me for divorcing her as there was no other options open to me.

I wish she had enough faith in god to seek help and counselling but she was not the woman i married

God`s role was that he made man and woman in the beginning as one God instituted marriage a great unifying blessing bonding the male and female in his creation. Therefore what God has joined together, Jesus grounds the sanctity of marriage in the authority of God himself. No to divorce sefeguards against human selfishness, which always threatens to destroy marriage. For struggling couple, prayers can be of help.

Divorce

He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them. Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
He answered, "What did Moses command you?"
They said, "Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."
But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife, and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter. He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."
