The sons of Thunder refer to John, the brother of James. They were the sons of Zebedee, and their last name was Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder...: "James the son of Zebedee; John, the brother of James, and he surnamed them Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder . . ."
