Calling of sinners
John, a great friend of Jesus, wrote when he was an old, old man:
  • How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are! ''I John 3:1a''

That is what we are! We didn't do anything for that one. And if any one of you here right now thinks that you're not qualified, that there's too much junk, too much brokenness, too much darkness in your life, hear Jesus' words. This is what Jesus said:

  • I have not come to call ''that word again'' the righteous, but sinners. ''Mark 2:17''

    a forgiving hand
Morn! He offers a forgiving hand instead of pointing his finger at the sinner and condemning with harsh words. He brings healing through repentance. He has come to gather and heal the lost sheep.

Behaving the religious leaders the way they act
Jesus came to save sinners. He came not to call the righteuos but sinners to repentance. Properly speaking the righteous cannot be called to repentance but those who are sinners. The religious leaders are blinded they thought that they are good because of what they performed of thier religion, but thier heart is far from there action. Thats why the Lord Jesus called them hypocrites, in the same way on the outside they appear to be people as righteous but inside are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

    Levi`s Call
Jesus did not support the scribes and the pharisees in the way they wanted the sinners to be treated in the communities. Jesus gave them a very good example of a necessity of a physician to the sick rather to the healthy.

By eating together with the tax collectors is Jesus corrupt?
The bible teaches us that we should not share the stolen goods by sharing food with the tax collectors. I see into it that Jesus has to preach against their corrupt values and then dines with them after they have stopped the deviant act.

    Jesus` response
The scribes and pharisees were very keen to find out mistakes in Jesus` life. One day they saw, He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors. Aiming Jesus, they asked question about this, to His disciples. Jesus responded that that those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. Also told that he came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentence. These religious leaders themselves were felt that they are holy and righteous. But they were like blind guides. They did not observe their teachings. Bible says that one who confess his sin will get grace from God. Jesus came to call the sinners to repentence. Jesus behaved in sharp contrast to reveal the hypocratic face of then religious leaders.

    Shall we need repentence ?
We accept the fact that we are sinners. We shall confess our sin before God. Then God will set us free. God is looking for a heart with confession and repentence. We have to humble before God in our daily life.

    Jesus reaction
Hi! He doesn`t condemn but sits with them saying that it`s people like them who need him - the ones who need healing need the physician so they need him. He came to call the sinners and invite them to repent. He is here rightly for them.

Jesus was teaching us not to be partial and also to be true to ourselves. We sometimes should not discriminate others as we ourselves are also no difference from them. God is a fair God, regardless of who you are God treats us fairly.

    The Calling of Levi

He went out again by the seaside. All the multitude came to him, and he taught them. As he passed by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he arose and followed him.
It happened, that he was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him. The scribes and the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"
When Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
