Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
First of all, did the penalty for sin need to be physical or emotional pain" I don`t know if it was necesasry, but I do know that it seemed that God has always needed some form of sacrifice for sin forgiveness. Pre-Jesus it was animal sacrifices. Animal sacrifices were violent and emotional for the animals.

Was Jesus trying to incite his death?
I would say, No. Because, Jesus saw the reaction to his 100% truth and revelation of secret mysteries in his teachings, resulted in two big reactions. One was to believe, submit and follow him. The other was a violent rejection of the message. Like anything thing we don`t like, we want to remove the discomfort immedietly. Jesus had seen how many people around him were reacting very emotionally against him and were as such, volitile. Jesus was sent to earth from the other person in the trinity of God, the Father, to preach 100% truth and reveal secret mysteries. However, Jesus new that doing what he meant to do was very likely to end in death. On top of this, he read the prophesies in the Old Testament, and it is logical to believe that the Holy Spirit would have pointed these verses out and said to Jesus, this is you that they are prophesying about. So he would have known from atleast two points of evidence - the behaviour of people around him and the prophesies. He verbally predicted his own death and betrayall to 1. give Judas the chance to reconsider and not do it ''like old testament prophesies given to Jews about future death'' and 2. to prepare his followers for beyond Jesus and letting the rest of the world then and in the future know about the very amazing act of God of becoming incarnate as a human.

Which of these purposes do you believe Jesus accomplished?
God as a whole ''son, father and spirit'' had a number of reasons for Jesus, for come into earthly world as a human. Jesus completed what he needed to do as a human and is now completing what he needs to do in heaven. The purposes Jesus fulfilled when he was on each are: - He allowed himself to be given to humans by God - He allowed himself to die on behalf of humans ''as a ransom for many'' - He served humans - He brought good news to the poor - He proclaimed freedom for the captives - He healed the blind ''both physically and spiritually'' - He preached the Kingdom of God in many cities other than just Capernaum

Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?
The Shema is a prayer that Jews pray every morning and evening. It includes, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and might. Jesus transformed the Shema prayer to now include And love one another as yourself. That it is why its a new command.
