Does Jesus believe lowly people are valuable? How valuable?

Valuable"  That seems a strange adjective to place on Jesus' feelings for the poor.  Actually, I believe that everyone is valuable to the Lord.  Then I guess the question is  "Are they more valuable than the rich"".

I don't believe they are "more valuable" than any of God's creatures, but they surely deserve much of His attention and grace.  Following the previous lesson on compassion, I believe this is where the distinction lies.  Jesus feels the pain and suffering of the poor, the sick, the afflicted, and the oppressed.  He has boundless compassion for people in need.  Yes, they deserve more of His attention because it is the sick that need a doctor, not the well.

Did the father of the prodigal son love his eldest son more"  Or did he love his youngest, prodigal son more"  He loved them both, but the younger son deserved the father's grace because he was lost and now found.  The youngest son received more immediate benefit of his father's grace, but both sons were equally "valuable" to him in the long run.

So, yes, I think the "poor" and the "sick" are valuable to Jesus.  I also think the "rich" or the "healthy" are valuable to Him.  How valuable"  Valuable enough to take their sins to the cross.  Valuable enough to have Him preparing a place for them and interceding on their behalf.

Define "Compassion"?

Compassion is a heart-felt sympathy for someone suffering physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

Jesus could not see someone suffering without feeling that suffering Himself.  Just as He would bear all of our sins on the cross, he felt and understood the pain and suffering of those he came in contact with.  He bore their pain and felt compassion for them.  He relieved them of their suffering, just as He relieved our sins through His blood on the cross.  This is His ultimate act of compassion, and it was for us.

Why was Jesus so upset about a little business being transacted in the temple courts?
Jesus was demonstrating against the improper pharisitical legalization of the Law. Where does the Law state that Greek drachmas were impure and unsuitable for the synagogue" The animals being sold were the weak and blemished, sold at a premium, to line the pockets of a few. Jesus' ministry continually disputed the way the Pharisees would interpret (legalize) the Law. Just as Jesus spoke in the Sermon on the Mount, he did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

I always find it difficult to see Jesus living the life of a normal Jewish boy; running and playing with the other neighborhood kds; getting into mischief, etc.  A humorous vision that I have is of Mary stepping out of her house at 6 PM and yelling, "Jesus!  Come home!  It's dinnertime!"  It just seems to humanize the experiences.

One thing that I still struggle with is Jesus' education.  I mean, He was God.  Didn't he already have a full comprehension of the Torah and its life application"  But then again he wasn't born fully fluent in Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek either.  I can only presume the youth and education of Jesus was a part of God's plan for Jesus to experience all of the physical aspects of human life.

Brief Summary of Jesus
Jesus is God, just as the rays of the sun are actually the sun.  Jesus is God's incarnation to all people so that we may believe in Him and have life-everlasting.  Jesus paid, in full, for all of our sins in His one-time sacrifice on the cross.  He now sits at the Father's right hand and intecedes on our sinful behalf.  He also dwells withing our hearts as we are enveloped by the Holy Spirit.  His presence and guidance leads us on a path of righeousness that we can never fully achieve in this life.  But his love and grace are showered upon us abundantly and we are forgiven of our sinful nature as long as we walk with Him and in Him.
