Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Jesus penalty for our sins nedd to be physical and emotional for us to feel and realized that He was sent by the HOly father to redeemed us for our sins . He was made just like one of us human for us to feel also th pain he is suffering. His emotions and physical sufferings must be felt by us to realized the pain he is suffering.

Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
No Jesus was not inciting his death. He is jsut following God`s mission in mankind.

How does Jesus link intimacy to him with obedience to him? a New commandment?
If we have personal relationship wih Jesus of course we have intimaterelationship with him ad by having intimate relationship with Him we can be sure that He is alwys with us and that we will be save from all troubles.

If you had a one-on-one meal with Jesus, what would you discuss?
If i have chance to dine with Jesus, I would tell Him that I thank Him for giving me the grace to know Him and for saving all mankind from sin. I will ask for his guidance here on earth or I am weak because I know He is my strength and my knowledge.I will invite Him to come to my heart so I will always be safe and be able to gentle and humble i heart just like Him.

Why does Jesus call Love One Another a New commandment?
Jesus said love one another because on this depend the whole law because if we love one another we would not hurt them and do bad things towards them and also by loving others means loving God and adoring Him.
