Why did Jesus? penalty for sin need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
I believe the suffering was for us. The real pain for Jesus and God was their forced seperation for three days. Remember, they had been together for eternity. We could not understand that kind of pain, so the Lord made the pain graphic for our benefit. I also believe, as in the stonings, beheadings and other methods of torture the the early Christians had to endure, if Christ had died blissfully, it would have been harder for the early Christians to carry on. Jesus always led by example, and no matter the sacrifice we have to do his work. Last lesson I wondered why Jesus wasn`t murdered in secret, my question is answered in Luke 19:47 47Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words. Great class

Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
First, I believe Jesus` plan was already in motion when he was born. He could have been murdered as a Baby by Herod. However, for our faith, it is more important that Jesus was crucified in a public way. The Sanhedrin could have murdered Jesus in secret, instead of publically. If fact they should have just hired an assasin to kill him. I believe they, the Sanhedrin, were determined to follow God`s plan to sacrifice his son for our benefit and not do the killing in secret or by proxy. Now if they had killed Jesus in secret, would Jesus still decend into Hell for three days and rise again to complete the redemption of our sins" And why didn`t they round up Jesus` followers immediatelly and kill them also" I think they were part of God`s plan and I`m thankful and humbled for it.

Last shall be first
It is about communing with Jesus. I feel Jesus was telling us whoever we are, we are welcome. We should remember, He was first, greatest, and he became last, cast into hell, for us. If we are to follow his examples we should accept everyone as an equal and treat everyone the same because we are all part of the Father. Jesus treats with respect and accepts us inspite of our faults as an example.

Define Compassion?
Compassion is not empathy. Compassion has action associted with it. Many of us feel sorry for other people, but few of us change that person`s life. We may not be able to ourselves, but with prayer and God`s help we can. Who ever said but for the grace of God there go I was wrong. God wants everyone to succeed and be well. Leaving someone by the side of the road while we are on our journey to Heaven is wrong. God wants us all there.
