Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  8Love never fails.

This describes all what pertains to love. Its the key to enjoying life and to live harmoniously with people. Jesus knew this and is commanding us to embrace love that we may live a fulfilling life. 

When one realises what matter of love that God has for us that he could not even spare his only son, for the sake of love, then we can say its the commandment that brings new life.
