Why did God allow John to be beheaded by Herod? Jesus told all the disciples that they would face persecution and even death for their faith ... He could not therefore save His cousin ... as an exception ... Hurt as it might ... Jesus needed to let Satan play out his plan ... Jesus felt the pain of this ... we can tell by His need to be alone after the news ...Once John had annouced the Lamb of God ... his part of the "mission" was complete ... to stop John's death ... would have been interfering ... (so to speak) ... Except with His Father's blessing this Jesus could not do ...

How come the unbelief of His countrymen prevented Jesus from performing many mighty works among them? Was it an attitude of unbelief permeating the congregation that prevented Jesus from performing miracles? ... The centurion's great faith was really a recognition of Jesus' authority, while his countrymen's unbelief was really a rejection of his authority.
