How did (does) repenting prepare someone for the Kingdom of God? Because we have to repent of our sins so that Jesus will cleanse us and make us right with the Father, to be able to go to Heaven.

Why did God choose such a unique way (through a virgin birth) to bring Jesus into the world? Mary was chosen to deliver the Son of God. Without Joseph being the biological father, Jesus was born as written in the scriptures to the virgin Mary. This was the origin of this blood line and would also be the end.
