 | Can you think of examples where Jesus modeled this radical teaching? |
The very first which comes to mind and which I think is the most important one is "Father forgive them, they know what they do", even at the point of death He still modeled His teachings. Jesus knew that Peter would betray Him not once but three times before the cock crowed and He, Peter became the first Bishop. When they came to arrest Jesus and one of His disciples cut off an ear Jesus replaced it and told them not to fight, He showed love and compassion for His enemies. His eating with tax collectors and sinners, healings and other miraclous signs on the Sabbath, acts of helping the persons who were ignored and hated, feeding those who were there not so much to listen but to receive, He constantly showed the way we should live amongst each other. Everything Jesus did were examples of His teachings, He taught it and lived it. He showed love towards those who loved Him and those who hated Him equally, He showed no partiality. He taught us that our reward would be even greater if we showed love especially to our enemies as well as our friends, after all we all belong to one Father, one creator and it is not up to us to judge our brothers and sisters it is our task to love equally no matter what the enemy has done. His very act of coming down to earth in human form is the very essence of the love He has for humankind. He was hated especially by the very persons who should know better but He still loved and cared for all. His life, death and resurrection is the ultimate example of His teachings. He did all of this so that those of us who truly follow His examples and acknowledges that it is only through Him will we be rewarded when He welcomes us into the mansion He has prepared for us. | What do you learn about Jesus, asking one of the most disliked men in town to become his follower? |
I learn that Jesus is a very compassionate, forgiving and trustworthy son of the Living God. I also learn that He takes the worst kind of people or the unbelievers to do His work because as He says that healthy people do not need a doctor, the sick does. The sick in this case are those you do not know God, probably never heard the Word of God spoken but are willing to know Him. Jesus loves us as He loved His followers because He came to call sinners to repentence. By: Diana Yarde Category: The Calling of Levi |
