Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? Humans experience physical and emotional pain. Jesus came to die for us in human form and thus wanted to experience what it is to be totally human. He was here to serve God in human form and thus would not be denied the full human experience.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?) No He wasn't.He knew that the prophecies must be fulfilled, therefore having faith in God, he continued to do what he came to do.
