What made Peter so afraid to be identified with Jesus? Why are many people today still afraid to identify with Jesus?
Peter was afraid because of what he saw being done to Jesus. Many of us who believe, as I stand to be corrected, say we will not deny Jesus, but when our lives are being threatened, we fail God by given in. But there are some who would definetly die for the body of Christ. I also believe, because there is so much corruption and different beliefs created in the world, fighting the battle on our own begins to strip us up. But Hebrews 13:5-6 are two verses of scripture we should cement in our being, confidently. And also we must understand that the battle is not ours,IT IS THE LORD'S. (For upliftment read Proverbs 4) When you walk in Wisdom it binds the spirit of "fear"

Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
Like many, the high priest was set in his ways. Because the Holy Spirit did not dwell within his being, he did not recognized Jesus as the Messiah. Otherwise he would not have mentioned that Jesus was blasphemying. Others knew from the time the saw Jesus, even the blind believed, because the Holy Spirit dwelled in them.
