Why was it necessary for Jesus to increase and John to decrease? John the Baptist was preparing the way for Christ, so John lessen his witnessing and preaching to others when He came. Christ was sent to speak the Word of God,(increase), so man might be saved and have eternal life. John testified that Chirst came from Heaven which meant Christ was above all things,in Heaven and on earth, but he (John) was of the earth and belong to the earth. He also knew he would soon be departing the earth.(death)
