Jesus didn't do anything wrong and had never hurt the guards, on the contrary, he had shown his great love to people, but the guards insulted him as fooling a dog. If neither Herod nor Pilate found anything worthy of death to convict Jesus of then why was he sentenced to death? Because Jesus' word showed the darkness inside the priests, the scribes, the elders, and all the other people who were thought as the deputy of God, which brought panic to these "dominant" people. So they hate Jesus to death and were completely determined to kill him, and even in the most cruel way.

Why do you think Jesus did not speak to Herod nor answer Pilate? I think it was because Jesus knew that neither Herod nor Pilate cared about God's word or was waiting for the Messiah. Herod wanted only to see the miracles to satisfy his curiosity as if it was magic or circus. And Pilate wanted only to do his regular job and avoid anything that could do harm to his dominant position. Speaking to them would be meaningless.
