Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower?

JESUS is teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. We have to give up all we had and must live in constant readiness to put our means at the disposal of the LORD'S end.

How does the host respond when people reject his dinner invitation in order to pursue their possessions and relationships?

The host was angry. The parable teaches us that GOD is able to extend HIS invitation, and HE is also able to isolate people from the benefits of HIS grace. In addition, Great Super stands for communal Celebration of Salvation. Those who were invited and made their excuses, will not taste HIS Super, meaning, they will not taste HIS SALVATION.

What does Jesus mean that "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted"?

JESUS was known as a Friend of sinners, and HE tells us to do good both to the lovable and the unlovable (Matt.5:46). So, if the unevangelized and needy are to be reached, GOD'S people must maintain ties with them, and should want to do so for the gospel's sake. (1 Cor.5:9-11). Therefore, to do what is right in GOD'S EYES at all times is virtuous, but even more so when one's charitable acts cannot possibly be attributed to desire for immediate personal advantage.
