How does the statement: "The Guards Mock Jesus" make you feel?

Breaks the heart.Adn when you think of his own motehr following him...knowing that he was fullfilling the will of the Father for each of us...brings so much courage. Striking to ponder on this part of his life when during Advent we are getting ready to welcome the Baby Jesus in our homes. For me it was the discovery of a new Jesus...after the saccharine like version i sometimes got when i was a child. His birth the beginning also of our life through his death and Passion. Thats why now i cannot feel Christmas Day as the last day after the waiting but the first one of..well we know waht he did for us.

Why do you think Peter denied knowing Jesus?

Makes you think a lot. Because when they are invited to walk on water he is the firts one to dare. Need to check again if this happens after or before the Resurrection. He has a very emotional exchange with Jesus when the Matser asks him three times, if he will care for his flock. Now he cries bitterly as the rooster crows and remembers the word that were claerly implanted in his heart. he denies him out of fear it seems. What hits very strongly is the humanity of his fragile nature and the fact that when again in that exchange he looks into Jesus eyes, he si filled then with courage as deep repentance follows the denials. very encouraging for our prone to failing nature. Knowing that a deep love for Jesus can be the fishing line that saves us.

In this account Jesus healed the servants ear. Why did he do such a seemingly small thing while he was being arrested?

Before Judas actually kisses Jesus, in an act of false friendship, Jesus anticipates his action: he knows that Judas is about to give him the betraying kiss and he also tells the chief priests that that is the hour of darkness. Evil acting is being carried out in the night and Jesus points the Lamp of Truth on their hearts. They do not dare doing that in daylight because they are afraid more of the crowds, on which their earthly power depends, than on God who sees all. The soldiers and the authorities were not only hindered by the thought of the Father, the fear of God (in the temple they did not attack Jesus physically'hopefully also out of respect for the Holy place) but also very likely afraid of a reaction of the people, that they would start a rebellion. And possibly Jesus did not want that to happen either as it would have risked confirming in some the mistaken hope that his was a political leadership and that the promised Kingdom was an earthly one. Healing the ear of the betrayer AND punishing his own erring disciples, was a very powerful lesson about the Father loving forgiveness. Love your enemy. All the more powerful as delivered in front of a small group of people than in front of a large crowd of people, a circumstance in which, using contemporary language and making reference to contemporary techniques, risked affecting people only superficially like some would with special effects (what sadly happens in many charismatic churches...stupefing the crowds like at the movies...) Losing the deep and true meaning of the gesture, concretising once again the Word into an act of loving hopefilling forgiveness. And maybe conquering some of the soldiers and Chief Priests hearts to the Father. Has not he most of the times performed the miracles either in total privacy or with few and always asking to maintain the secret? It was not superficial word of mouth spreading of the message he wanted. But a deeply felt not in an hyper way conveyed sharing of what was actually heard and seen.
