The word  salvation comes from salus that in latin means health. Here we are talking about spiritual health and by that it is intended being free from the chains of sin, slavery to the  devil who blinds us and weakens us and leads us onto wrong paths leading to his kingdom, the pitch of hell far from God. The parable of the trsong man and th thieves. the thives of our soul. We need to be free of the burden of sin so that light and free we can serve God to build His Kingdom here on earth and help others  up the ladder  towards their crown. Free from the burden of materialistic attachments. All prodigal children called back to the house of David, to whom some are genetically related. But in the NT children of God - the Our Father prayer, are all those who obey and follow him. Zacariah is mute and he listens and takes all in and obeys fully. Believes the unbelivable and waits full of faith and trust in asilence knowing that as all the past prophesies were fullfilled so shall this one be too.God will come to show mercy towards our fathers:call bacl and collect all the lost sheep. Who are called to begrateful in feling in debt for the great sacrifice that God offered for OUR salvation. His son for each of us sinners. And waht are we asked? to unload our budrensome load of sins and open our eyes the Light following the Path of Love. which is hard but helping each other and with the help of Mother Church and the renewing womb of the confessional...:)
