He will be a leader of people like Moses and others were abd will do so bearing that Torch that is the burning Faith of eliaah heart and soul (E will be one of those appearing during the transfiguration). And he will also beckon people oward jiiustice indicating the right path. And calling to obedience. makes you think that fact that the one who will announce Jesus in the desert...after this annunciation, his own father will become mute. Holding traesuring that in secrecy like mary will treasure Jesus words. He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord, their God. He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." How does Luke claim to distinguish his biography of Jesus from other recorded biographies from eyewitnesses (e.g. Matthew and John)? He places himself as the one who studied all that has been written before by eyewitnesses accurately and that with equal accuracy draws all these words of salvation togetehr and offers them in the form of a letter, very personal touch, as it was to a friend. A friend he wishes to instruct. Instructing him on the reality truthful quality of all that happened. The addresse is an important official so he must have listened to many many many people and gathered all possible physical testimonies - heard seen touched - about physical healings. To show that Jesus is God and that brings miracles and wondruous healings. Then the three parables emphasise the teaching of the lost and found bringing the understanding of such healings to their true meaning: it is the healing of a lost soul what Jesus the Shepard brings. And only his God nature can bring that here again the needed emphasis on pshyical wonders that people need to focus on if their faith needs a earthly 'stick' to hold on to move up to the higher level. So to reassure her as telling her now that the salvation will come through the cross would be too uspetting. He leaves that to old Simeon whose old age and wisdom would offer her reassurance. this morning (for the all family), i lighted a candel in St Michael Church near my school opposite the portriait of an aged saint holding i think baby Jesus. Will find out who he is. These words brought them to haert...the old man reassuring presence.
