Why does Jesus consider this woman`s desire to please Jesus more important than giving to the poor?

Difficult to answer...certainly she feels and sees Jesus in his most vulnerable fragile humanity and knows, sharing in the heart, those terrible sufferings he will experince. And finds the strenght to give him comfort To his human self. The Son of God strenghetned by a simple woman who must have fully understood the meaning of the Resurrection (ok minus so to say the technicalities as she was looking for his body). She is looking ahead in Heaven cause she is there with him. She understand the full meaning of cross to the point so that she fully benfits from it already.

Why does Jesus encourage focusing on the daily task at hand and discourage predicting the future?

Because the faithful servant works hard and is not wasting time seeing when the master is coming back. He knows that he will come when it is the will of God. Not his. And serenely focuses on the tasks at hand. Keeping the ship shipshaped ready for the Master and knowing that when everything, depsite our efforts, seems to fall apart, it wont sink but will soon lifted up on the most poweerful waves of His second coming. All hands on deck! :)

Jesus claimed that after a future period of destruction and distress, he (The Son of Man) will come back to earth with great power and glory. What did Jesus say he would do at that time?

There will be tossing and storms and pain and seemingly all that was built will collapse but they are to stand fast by Jesus he is on the boat of the world and he will steer it to salvation. Its like birth pains. Seems we are swallowed like in the belly of the whale, but soon we shall be rising into a new world. From death in Christ and with Christ and for Christ, so the Resurrection. If we stood fast, he shall come and take us to the Father, via Purgatory wehn necessary, but all the time our eyes and souls must be fixed on him. Our Light in the enrwrapping darkness.And then a new humanity will spring forth like Jesus did from Mary the new Adam. In the manger of the world.
