What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?
Jesus was deeply human and all human factors influenced him greatly. In all these what impressed me most was Jesus involement in life. He was first of all a good citizen.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?
The things that stand out and surprise me most are that Jesus came from such a strict Jewish background, abiding by all the Jewish laws and yet He changed all that with His teachings.  For example the fact that it angered Him to see people selling outside His Fathers templem when it was common practice. That He would talk to everyone alike Jews or Gentiles when the Jews would disassociate themselves from the Gentiles.  That He would speak to woman and have them as his followers and take time to listen to them when in His time they were considered to be of a lower standard than men.  He was so full of love and so determined to teach the ways of His Father even though it went against everything He was brought up with.

Jesus was born in Bethlemen and grew up in humble surroundings in Nazareth, where he worked as a carpenter. He was brought up as a Jew and followed the Jewish laws completely.  When he was 30 years old he began preaching about God and also claiming to be the Son of God.  These claims landed him in trouble with the Jewish leaders who despised his eventual popularity and claims.  Jesus taught the people that God loves everyone equally, rich or poor, sick or healthy. That God forgives our sins and that we must love one another. After gaining much popularity once leaving his hometown of Nazareth and preaching in Galilee and Jerusalem he preform several miracles and converted many people to follow him.  Jesus was eventually betrayed and handed over to be tortured and crucified.  Crucifixtion was being nailed to a cross and left there to hang. This method cut of air supply to the body and one usually died after 3 hours.  After Jesus death he rose from the dead and appeared to several people.  Jesus popularity increased by the day until eventually the Romans adopted Christianity as their religion, as did the Greeks.  The coming of Jesus marks the end of an era in our calendar and we call it B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini - After Christ)
