What things can you look at to have a good eye (lamp), and thus fill your life with light instead of darkness?
I find that my eyes wander to the things of man, so keeping an eye on the word helps with those things. I also find that my eyes sometimes sees green, and I fix that by counting my blessings and looking at how little others have. Often I see the darker side of men including myself so I try to focus on that which is good in all of us and that, we are told is God alone.

Did Jesus feel he had performed enough miracles (signs) to convince the people to follow or listen to Jesus?
I don't think that Jesus was specifically saying these things to either limit or release more miracles, but it would seem that He is frustrated with the attitude of the people listening and so draws a comparison to the folly of mans "wisdom" and the lack of their state of repentance. Both of these lessons would have been understood by the people of the time because they were old testament teachings. It could also be argued that as Jonah is a "type" of Christ there is perhaps far more to be understood than this passage would first suppose.

Why did Jesus“ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Sin, showed the position of mans heart towards God, however the consequences of that sin is not only eternal seperation from God but also leads to emotional and physical problems for all mankind. I believe that as our "goel", Jesus, had to suffer the exact same consequences as we would have had to suffer in order to be our kindsman redeemer. This would then place us in the position that we are currently blessed with, namely that Christ was killed in our place yet He was innocent of any sin, unlike us.
