Herod`s fear
He is afraid of God`s punishment that is foreshadowed to him through John the holy and righteous man as he himself recognises. It`s the fear we all need to have. As we have to be glad to gladly follow his commands whatever they may be. And in doing o we know that God` on our side. Always. May you have a blessed and joyful day faithfully walking in Jesus footsteps.

Herod`s fear
Herod had the power to do anything as he desires. However, Herod was feared himself of many things. Herod was aware that John is a righteous and holy man. Anything doing against such a man will invite God`s anger. Hence Herod feared to kill the John, even if he had the power.

Herod knew that John could see through all the bad things that he did. John was a pure and holy man, he could recognize a suffering soul when he saw one and he had the words to ease this suffering. Maybe Herod was afraid to kill him because deep down inside he wanted to be judged by God and not the world.

I believe King Herod respected John deeply. He, at some level, felt remorse for the deeds he had done by marrying his brother`s wife, and John helped him to see some of the errs of his ways. Being King, however, he also did not want to lose face in front of his subjects or high officers. He recognized in John a power greater than himself, and he was afraid of that power. So when he felt that he had no other choice but to behead John..''to save face''..and then there came a message that John the Baptizer had risen from the dead, he was afraid of being judged for his deeds. He knew very well that what he had done was wrong, and now he was afraid of what the punishment might be. It`s not that different with some of the issues I`ve gone through growing up. When I have made a mistake without prior knowledge that in fact it was a mistake, I can easily ask for forgiveness and then forgive myself. But when you go out intentionally and do something that you know is wrong..how hard is it to ask for forgiveness and to forgive yourself.

Hello dear friends, king Herod feared this righteous man and holy before God b`se he knew the Lord would punish him if he messes up with his servant. Ofcourse I too fear the righteousnes men of God who are holy I fear them.

This question is good for the only thing that makes the King Herod to be in a mood of fear is, he noticed that John the baptist was innocent yet killed him, despite that is something unwillingly. He thought that John has come back again for vengence, this was his fear when he heard the news of Christ Jesus. Therefore let every man following mind how you will talk, this little part of the body can kill you and can still keep you alive. Let us go to the book of Ezra 8:22 where some gentle-men from Isreal bossed b/4 the King concerning their God, that is to say the God they know not, the God they heared that performs miracules claiming that they know Him whereas they know Him not, for this they regreated of going back to the King again for help WHY? be/cos they have POSSED brfore the King. Child of God if you know who is your God POSSE with His name but if you do not know, do not POSSE rather seek to know Him first for He said in the book of Jeremaiah you shall seek me and find me. The fear of God. John was decapitated and suffered a horrible physical death :''. but as he faced it in the name of Jesus God to defend and spread the Word of Life. gained that Life and eternal bliss. He is killed and rises to new life-. Herod kills men often to assure his earthly power - you shall not kill - and in do doing gradulaly brings himself to death.He had the opportunity to listen and take the Word in and he rejected it by killing John moved by earthly superficial passing reasaosns. Herodias wishes..trying to please humands for the earthly crown. He loses his Life as well as the Crown.I am afarid of stumbling and not following in the steps of the Teachings. But i know that my Guardian Angel is there to lift me up and i can always find shelter and renewal in the confessional box.

King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, "John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him." But others said, "It is Elijah." Others said, "It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets." But Herod, when he heard this, said, "This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead." For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married her. For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she couldn't, for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.
Then a convenient day came, that Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you." He swore to her, "Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."
She went out, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?"
She said, "The head of John the Baptizer."
She came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter."
The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths, and of his dinner guests, he didn't wish to refuse her. Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring John's head, and he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.
When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
