a sigh is just a sigh?
I think it`s beacuse he`s asking the Father for the strenght to heal. It`s areleif to see miracles performed on you but think you are the one called to perform those miracles. Wouldn`t you be afraid? God sent us a man not a cartoon Superman with all his human potential at all levels -physical and emotional and spiritual - but like when in h??the end he says if this be thou will Jesus is afraid and yet trusting till the end. That sigh to me is a creviche into his human heart and i feel we do not liste to that enough. We forget Jesus humainity - think also of the Mel Gibson film - all the pain that comes through. It`s a real Jesus not an anodyne candyland one. So much in a sigh...and we should also learn to listen more to our fellow beings sighs before waiting for bigger signa that something is going wrong and needs rctifying wither of our own fault or because of others.

I think jesus asking something for a permission in heaven or help from the holy spirit, that the deaf and mute man will feel the power of meracles by touched. The sighed of relief comes from the heaven, jesus sometimes makes this sighed before healing to those people with inborn defection. Our lord jesus christ makes all things imposible to posible and he is merciful, we as a christians or even not christians, all mankind just ask for begging a mercy for our sins and ask something for help to our needs specialy to our serious problem and he is always at our side to response.

The Healing of a Deaf and Mute Man
Jesus looked up and sighed because he was communicating to the Father and asking for God`s availability in the miracle he was about to perform. He was praying too.

Lesson 30 jul 2006
Goodmorning! I find it a difficult question, but i think that Jesus sighed so that He could be filled with the power of God the father so that He realy trusted on Him.

The healing of a deaf and mute man
Jesus looked up to heaven and then sighed before the healing I think that looking up to heaven it is indicate or to show us that the source of all things and creator of all universe is God who is in heaven, and telling us that we will keep on looking to Him and depending Him.

Jesus heals a deaf and mute man
Jesus is looking the Father at heaven, by whom he was sent, and from whom, as man, he received his authority and power. Then Jesus sighed before the healing, as commiserating the case of the poor man, and reflecting with concern upon his sin, that had been the occasion of it. These actions of looking up to heaven and sighing, as they may be understood in a spiritual sense, or with relation to the spiritual healing of a sinner, may show that such a blessing comes from above ie. from the Father of heaven. Jesus had done nothing without the permission of the Father.

Why do you think Jesus looked up to heaven and then sighed before the healing?
Have you never looked up to Heaven while praying, and been so overcome with the love that you feel, that the only response you have is to sigh? I believe that Jesus looked up to His Father, with compassion in His heart and for permission to heal. What He received was His Father`s love, so strong was His acceptance of His Son`s actions...Jesus felt that overwhelming love...and could but sigh.

Why do you think Jesus looked up to heaven and then sighed before the healing?
Maybe he was very tired exhausted after so many healings brought and all the multidudes following and proclaiming his healing powers ''he did not tell to say it as he was not looking for fame and some charlatans even for money but had to come from the conviction rooted in the people testifying with their eyes''. Pleading His father to concede him a moment for some prayerful rest ''restful prayer''? :''

The Healing of a Deaf and Mute Man

Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the region of Decapolis. They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside from the multitude, privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue. Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!" Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was released, and he spoke clearly. He commanded them that they should tell no one, but the more he commanded them, so much the more widely they proclaimed it. They were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes even the deaf hear, and the mute speak!"
